"THE WORLD IS LIT WITH SPLENDOR..."

"THE WORLD IS LIT WITH SPLENDOR,
THERE ARE SURELY MORE COLORS THAN ON ANY ARTIST'S PALLETTE...."
GLADYS TABER - STILLMEADOW SEASONS

Ahhhh - Autumn, isn't the light prettier than at any other time of the year?  Whether it is the sun's different angle or the light being reflected or filtered by the leaf colors,  everything seems to glow.

The fairies have been busy taking care of changing colors in the tree tops and the elves have been working on the grasses, ground plants, and shrubs.  Easy for them to reach, you know.

The elves love this little purple flowered weed.  You know elves are responsible for it, because you must look very close to the ground to see it.  Soon its leaves will be scarlet.  That's the elves signaling to the chickadees, sparrows, and snowbirds that the plant's seeds are ready to eat.  This is my favorite weed.  It's fun to watch the tiny birds all gather to feast on the seeds on the blustery days near winter.

Holding on to Summer

I don't remember the name of this plant, but it is a survivor. Thriving through our 108 degree days of summer and now the 40 degree nights.  It is extra pretty now, and will probably survive until after the first snow.

At The Woods Edge
Elves and fairies have been busy at the edge of the woods.  Can you see where the path leads into the woods?  I believe it may be "the one less traveled".  Deer are frequently seen here, even though it is surrounded by subdivisions.

Liking Lichens

Lovely lichens on an old dogwood tree.  North side mostly, of course.  Fairy Work for sure!  They look almost like grayish blue doilies on the limbs.  Fairy cut-lace work for sure.

Dogwood with One Red Berry
Garnet red dogwood leaves are so pretty.  This was the only berry left on the tree.  It was gone the next day, a yummy snack for some little hungry creature.

  1. Oh what simply beautiful photography, celebrating the Season of Autumn! Beautiful... Beautiful... Beautiful...

I must look for the Elves Purple Flowered Weed. Gorgeous!

And the Faerie doilies, of lichens. They do look like that, don't they? And I didn't know they are found mostly on the northern side. Learn something new, every day. :-)

Dear Gladys, what lovely word pictures that lady could paint!

Love both your photography and your whimsey. Love them "to-pieces". :-)

  6. I have some of those purple flowers and I thought they were dead, but I noticed new blooms on them today. I think they are Calibrachoa (and I had to run and check my tag to see what they call them)? Love your Fall photos!
